Why I Think Shoutout isn't as Loud as it seems

When Shoutout! first premiered on ABS-CBN back in November, I was ecstatic. I mean what teen wouldn't? It's about time ABS-CBN did a teen oriented show. Shows there are either about old people dealing with their kinda lame crises about this and that or about little kids who sometimes lack comedic timing which is okay because they're still kids and they're cute and they can get away with it.

I was even more ecstatic learning that some of the cast members included PBB Teen Clas Winner and It Boy James Reid, theatre singer and actress Tippy Dos Santos and the most handsome Gigger Boy evah Enrique Gil to name a few. But if you know me, it's so not me to watch local shows. The last local show I watched regularly to was PBB Teen Clash of 2010 but the real last one I really got addicted to was Heart Evangelista's now defunct QTV program Fashionistas By Heart.

So anyways, I followed Shoutout!. I liked that it premiers on the afternoon then at mga 5:15 which is usually way after most teen's dismissal time. I watched this show regularly--Monday to Friday--and get pissed if I miss an episode(which I did many times because of other affairs. I even didn't watch Shoutout! for a whole week when it was almost Christmas then).

But something happened last month on Shoutout!. On that said episode, they announced then and there that they only had 4 WEEKS to air and that same time to redeem themselves whether ABS-CBN should continue airing the show or not. This provoked me as very desperate and not at all classy for that program to do. I remember on that episode, there one of their producers read most of the hate comments the show received online.

While I agree with what the haters said(like not all of them seem to take it seriously and it shows), I also still hate the fact that Shoutout! was questioning the cast mates for those comments. Can't the program ever think that no matter how great a show is or not, YOU CAN'T ESCAPE THE HATERS?! Haters gonna hate, but it seems that Shoutout! wanted every comment about the show to be positive which is understandable but not at all possible in the real world where there are so many people with different mindsets. Haters did have a point. How many times have I seen someone miss a step in a dance number or not open their mouths during a singing number showcasing that they're only lip syncing?? Many, actually. A damn lot.

I also pursed my lips when they demoted Enrique Gil on national TV from host to teenmate which is quite horrifying if I were in his place. Even the producer read that negative comment about him on TV: about why the hell is he a host if no one doesn't even know him(which, I think, you're losers to say that because he is everywhere!!!). It was awful.

So since then, the show changed. Ironically, the show changed its name to Shoutout! Level Up because I feel that it obviously didn't level up. It became a teen entertainment cum reality show, which I feel made the show not so interesting anymore. The schedule changed, too. It was places na at 4:15 in teh afternoon and the show only aired for 30 minutes instead of the usual 45. They even shuffled the groups of the show so the groups for each day of the week wasn't the same groupings as before. I kinda wondered why they made the teens ''audition'' for a spot number rather than before where all the teens had their chances to shine together. It was pathetic and boring and a very sorry looking attempt to draw viewers besides the fact that the teenmates are polishing their talents a bit more. It's as if viewer favorites such as Bret Jackson, James Reid among some others aren't shining so much anymore on the show which was kinda sad. Don't get me wrong--I liked that the newer crop of talents were the ones impressing the judges but not all the of the new kids were able to get the attention as much as the other guys.

If you guys asked if the teenmates improved....well....maybe some but other need some sprucing up pa rin. Some of the spot numbers I've watched were terrible these past few weeks. TERRIBLE! I remember last week each of the groups(or at least a few people who passed the auditions from each group) where supposed to do a number about an icon they admired. I remember one group chose Elvis Presley and boy, WERE THEY HORRIBLE!!!! I can't stand to watch it or even listen to them singing. Parang Shoutout! Level DOWN na to. :P

But on that same episode, this other group performed to Jennifer Lopez--and they were awesome. Crazy awesome. Super crazy awesome. Emman Vera, who sang, was great. That girl has some pipes! And the others, heck, were all crazy great dancers and had the best choreography to match. Incredible, I tell ya. I've watched other spot numbers on Shout Out! and most I forgot(not unless it's as horrible as that Elvis number I told you earlier), but this was the best so far.

Just when I thought things might get better, Shoutout! had to let go of some of our fave teenmates like Ryan Bang, Pierro Vergara and Katheryn Bernando among others. While the show was just being concerned about the teenamtes' schedule being overbooked, I still think it sucked just when I thought the show might save itself.

It was too bad that Shoutout! ended last Friday just three weeks ever since that controversial announcement on TV. AKALA KO 4 WEEKS SILA MAG-REREDEEM? PUTEK NAMAN. From a reliable source, it ended because it just didn't garner as much audiences as when it first started. Although I have said pretty awful things now about the show, I still felt bad it ended. Sayang lang. I watch that show to see my favorite artistas and now wala na. Even the teenmates were expressing their anger for the cancellation of the show(eh paano I bet they know what the network did to it sucked) on Twitter.

Maybe there was a lesson for the network and ABS-CBN learned it: that no matter how good an idea is, it wouldn't work out if the people won't even try to. The teenmates did try, but ABS-CBN is wasting a ton of money here waiting for improvement and we viewers have something to do with it. There was a lesson too for the teenmates: to take this opportunity seriously because something like this doesn't come to anyone and an opportunity like this doesn't last forever.
